Columbia River Gorge Scenic Drive

Historic Columbia River Highway

Since we’re located on the old Historic Columbia River Highway, getting started is a snap!  You’ll turn left from our driveway (headed east) and follow the highway past many viewpoints and waterfalls.

One of the first stops is the Vista House at Crown Point, a unique building that has incredible views from a cliff that overlooks the Columbia River Gorge.

A few twists and turns later you find several large waterfalls within a few miles of each other, including the most famous, Multnomah Falls.  After the falls the old highway soon meets up with I-84, which leads you to Bonneville Dam.

Beacon Rock on Washington side of Columbia Gorge

From the Dam, continue on I-84 to Cascade Locks to visit one our of favorite places, Sodenberg Studio and Bronze Works.
After a tour of the foundry, you can continue east to Hood River.  Just south of the city is the Western Air and Auto Museum.

From Hood River, head east again on I-84 to The Dalles, where you can visit the Gorge Discovery Center and Wasco County Museum.

You can cross the Columbia River at The Dalles to head home on the Washington side.  Near Stevenson you’ll find the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center.  Just beyond you may cross the river again and head west toward Troutdale.

Relax after your long day at one of these great restaurants near the B&B: Tad’s Chicken and Dumplings, Shirley’s Tippy Canoe or Ristorante Di Pompelllo in Troutdale.
